April Construction Creates Congestion and Closed Sidewalks in the Northern Sector of Campus

Spring has sprung bringing multiple, new construction projects with it. Due to extensive construction on the northern portion of campus, including the Campus Safety Building, the Kendeda Building, and the Dalney Building, impacts to pedestrian and vehicular traffic will occur throughout the month of April. Users of Ferst Dr. between Hemphill Ave. NW and Atlantic St. should proceed with caution. Through traffic will be maintained at all times.

  • Increased construction truck traffic in the northwest sector of campus, particularly along Ferst Dr. and State St.
  • Closed sidewalks at the Living Building project at State St. and Ferst Dr.
  • 9th Street between Hemphill Ave and Center St. will have potholing work underway in the street through early April. Half of the street will remain open at all times while this work is underway.

Pedestrian and Cyclist Impacts along State Street and Ferst Drive

We will be adding a curb cut and modifying a road island on State St. between the Kendeda Building and Baker, as well as adding a curb cut on Ferst Dr. on the west side of the Kendeda Building. Specific impacts to these roads are as follows:

State Street:

  • Sidewalk will be closed at curb cut location from 4/2/18 – 4/17/18
  • Bicycle lane will be closed at curb cut location from 4/2/18 – 4/17/18
  • Through traffic will be maintained at all times on State Street.

Ferst Drive:

  • Sidewalk will be closed at curb cut location from 4/2/18 – 4/17/18
  • Bicycle lane will be closed at curb cut location from 4/2/18 – 4/17/18
  • Through traffic will be maintained at all times on State Street.
  • During demolition activities between 4/4 – 4/6, State Street may intermittently be managed by traffic control flagmen with the road reduced to one lane. Through traffic will be maintained at all times by traffic control flagmen.
